Tori Kelly embarks on her first tour since 2019, headlining 'The Take Control Tour' at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on September 26, 2023.
Performing to a sold-out crowd, Tori took the stage beaming in white street-style cargo pants, chunky sneakers, vest, and arm sleeves, reminiscent of early 2000's R&B fashion- perfectly fitting her latest Y2K-inspired Pop-R&B EP album, tori.
Tori opened the show with the first single off the EP, cut, and did exactly what the tour name and lyrics she sang, "I'm the only one who take control, I know you know" as she instructed the crowd, "I want to see you jumping!." The whole room threw their hands up and were bouncing with energy.
Performing throwback fan favorite songs like, 'Nobody Love', 'Should've Been Us' and 'All In My Head' to her latest releases, 'Missin U', 'Young Gun' and 'Shelter', the crowd sang along to every song. What may have been louder than the crowd singing, may have been the continuous cheering feedback of "woo!"'s and "ow!"'s from everyone's reaction every time Tori would hit her iconic high notes and vocal runs.
As a big smile gleaned on Tori's face, she expressed how thankful that this show happened. Originally scheduled for July 28, 2023, as her album release party and show, the event was postponed due to a health emergency just five days before the date. Tori shared how she's in better health now and had the opportunity to end this tour with Los Angeles being the last stop.
The crowd was just as thankful to see Tori back in her spirits while she was her energetic self on stage, dancing, twirling, and effortlessly belting out notes. After the show, she shared an Instagram story she was tagged in from her long-time best friend, singer-songwriter AJ Rafael, where he wrote under a video clip from the show, "@torikelly is back (she never left)", only echos what we all feel for this new chapter in Tori's career.
